The Reparto Corse Cleat Fitting requires a full bike fitting first. Why? Getting your cleat position correct involves being positioned correctly on your bike for saddle height and cockpit length as well as examining your feet structure and cycling gait.
Cleat fitting is included as part of the Reparto Corse bike fitting, but if you have multiple bikes and shoes the steps to optimize your cleat fit this is the next step to take.
I examine getting all of your cleated shoes and bikes to be matched up in three ways. The first is the knee over pedal spindle positioning in conjunction. The verification is with the pedal stroke numbers on the Computrainer for efficiency and average torque angle. Getting the cleats lined up on each shoe so that the pedal stroke numbers are consistent and natural will be the goal.
Creating a full picture of your bike fit needs will allow me top address a proper cleat/foot interface setup whether you need correct cleat alignment, in-shoe or cleat-shoe interface wedges, orthotics or some combination of all three.
A proper bike fit will make you comfortable and efficient. Whatever your goals and needs are there is no substitute for a properly fitted bike. A less than optimal bike fit can cause injury and certainly make you less inclined to ride.
A complete Reparto Corse fitting session for an existing bike will take about 90 minutes, but you have several options for how in depth you would like to go with the fitting and we can tailor the fitting to your goals.
The steps in the complete fitting include:
- A discussion of your cycling goals, needs, riding style and experience.
- An assessment of your flexibility and range of motion.
- Measurements for your current position with regard to frame size, saddle height, crank arm length, top tube length, stem length, handle bar width, seat tube angle, saddle positioning and setback.
- Body measurements for inseam, thigh length foot arch height, hip height, forefoot tilt, and shoulders.
- Adjustments to your position starting at your foot-pedal-cleat interface and working all the way through your body to your handlebar reach.
The process of optimizing your position is dynamic so it takes time and cannot be rushed. Each change needs to be evaluated and recorded.
I am a registered Racermate Computrainer Coach specializing in rider position, a Level III USA Cycling Coach, and a member of the Serotta International Cycling Institute. I am also an executive board member of the Unione Sportiva Cycling Club, a traditional road racing club founded in 1908, and the Westchester Cycle Club, a recreational/touring club with 1500 members. I write about cycling topics for both clubs and lead rides that focus in learning riding skills in a fun and friendly environment.
Through more than 15 years of professional fitting for thousands of cyclists from successful racers to beginning club riders I have always insisted on fitting the bike to the rider instead of forcing the rider to fit the bike.

Reparto Corse On-Line Fitting -- The Reparto Corse on-line fitting has its roots in the (C.O.N.I.) Italian Olympic Committee's research conducted to help determine the optimum sizing and positioning for the cyclists representing Italy at international events.
To revceive a fitting suggestion submit your measurements and I will respond with sizing based on your measurement numbers as well as your criteria for riding style and budget. If you have any questions during the process of your fitting; or would appreciate my guidance please call (914 328 9811) or email me and I will assist you.
For the most accurate results you will need a friendly assistant. In order to be accurate take each measurement two to three times. All measurements must be provided in centimeters where indicated.
1.) Leg length: We measure leg length as the distance from the bottom of your pelvis to the sole of your feet. To do the leg length measurement stand with your feet a few inches apart and your back against a wall. Using a slim book (about an inch wide), hold the spine of the book firmly against the bottom of your pelvis (we want there to be about 15 pounds of pressure), and the bottom of the book against the wall to form a 90 degree angle, and measure from the floor to the top of the book's spine.
2.) Foot length: We measure foot length as the distance from the back of your heels to the end of your longest toe. To do the foot length measurement place your heels against a wall and a straight edge across the end of your toes. Measure from the wall to the inside edge of the straight edge. It is normal for there to be a slight difference in the length of your feet. If this is the case, submit the larger foot's length.
3.) Torso length: We measure torso length as the distance from the top of your sternum's notch to the top of your pelvis. To do the torso length measurement stand with your back against a wall and shoulders square while holding a book with a spine of no more than one inch in width against the bottom of your pelvis and measure from the top of the book's spine to your sternum's notch. Again, we want there to be about 15 pounds of pressure against your pelvis to achieve an accurate measurement.
4.) Thigh length: We measure thigh length as the distance from the bottom of your pelvis to the bottom of your kneecap. To do the thigh measurement, kneel with your torso and legs straight. Measure from the floor to the top of the same book spine used for the leg and torso measurements. Remember, it is important to have 15 pounds of pressure against your pelvis to achieve an accurate measurement.
5.) Arm length: We measure arm length as the distance from the point where your arm pivots at the shoulder to the first knuckle of your thumb. You may use either arm. To find the pivot point keep your elbow straight, hold your arm out to the side and move it arm up and down. Once you have located the pivot point at the end of your shoulder, measure from that point to the first knuckle of your thumb.
6.) Shoulder width: We measure shoulder width as the distance across from one pivot point to the other on each shoulder/arm junction. To measure your shoulder width, raise both arms to a 45 degree angle from your body to the side and measure from one pivot point to the other across your back as you would for a suit measurement.
7.) Weight: Use an accurate scale and give me the measurement in pounds.
8.) Height: Measure from the floor to the top of your head in either feet and inches or centimeters.
9.) Riding style: Aggressive or Casual
10.) Price range. Please specify your budget for a new frame on its own or a complete bike; i.e. Frame--$2000, or Complete bike--$3000.

Reparto Corse Bikeotherapy -- A proper bike fit will make you comfortable and efficient and is the starting point to being a better more complete rider. The fitting is a required component of Bikeotherapy as it will provide us with a baseline against which we can measure progress.
Whatever your goals and needs are there is no substitute for a properly fitted bike and Reparto Corse Bikeotherapy is follow up coaching purchased by the hour for sessions that can be indoors to focus on technique and bike material/ride/component/frame discussion and/or on the road in a dynamic setting.
Bikeotherapy is best done one on one, but small groups of up to three clients are possible for outdoor sessions.
At the start a Reparto Corse fitting session will take about 2 hours.
The fitting begins with a discussion of your cycling goals, needs, riding style and experience. The discussion includes exploring what is working and what is not working about your current riding. If you have had any injuries and if there are particular problems to address they are recorded so we can begin to make the necessary adjustments.
The next step is an assessment of your flexibility and range of motion. After taking measurements for your current position with regard to frame size, saddle height, crank arm length, top tube length, stem length, handle bar width, seat tube angle, saddle positioning and setback I take extensive body measurements for inseam, foot arch height, and shoulders. We now have a starting point to achieve the comfortable alignment of your feet, legs, spine, shoulders, arms, hands and feet.
The adjustments start at the pedal-foot connection and work their way up and forward. Tools that I use include some simple ones; a mechanical level, a goniometer, a forefoot angle tool, a plumb line, and a laser level. The fitting also takes advantage of the technology found in more complicated tools like the Computrainer Spinscan pedal stroke analysis, and the Size-O-Matic adjustable stem which permits the full range of height, length and angle options available in stems.
The process of optimizing your position is dynamic so it takes time and cannot be rushed. Each change needs to be evaluated and recorded.
With the sizing and positioning completed it is time to review the fit making sure that it is comfortable. Depending on your cycling goals and what I am training you for - endurance, power increase, handling skill, etc other tests may be indicated to give us a baseline for power output, fitness or aerobic threshold. All of these are available and priced individually.
